How is PVD treated?
Lifestyle Changes
The most effective lifestyle change in altering the progression of PVD is to stop the use of tobacco products.
A low fat diet and regular exercise are also helpful. Additionally, if decreased blood flow is significant, a foot
care program is recommended to prevent or treat existing sores.
Medications
Several types of medications are beneficial in the prevention and control of PVD. Your physician may prescribe
medicines for controlling blood pressure and cholesterol levels. There are also medications that prevent blood
clots as well as the build-up of plaque in the arteries. Finally, pain medications may be necessary.
